We had our first house party this past Saturday to get to know our new neighbors and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early! I love hosting parties; something about the chaos of getting everything ready and decorating makes my heart go pitter patter!
Here are some of the things I did for our St. Patrick’s Day Cookout that are so EASY and CHEAP!
First off, I went to Target to their bargain section where you can find tons of stuff between $1-$3! I got all of our paper plates, awesome napkins, cups, and this fun pompom banner for all under $15!
Then for food, I decided this time I didn’t have the energy to make all the food that I normally do. So hello soft – iced Target cookies, Trader Joe’s Sweet Potato Chips and Peach Salsa and Costco Veggie plate and hot dogs… dinner is served! We also had neighbors who brought some apps as well! A delicious sugar cookie topped with fresh berries and kiwi! AND deviled eggs and cucumbers topped with guacamole. (Yep, they went fancy!)
When I host a party I have a vision in my head of something that looks so grand that a magazine will want to do a photoshoot… but, that’s not realistic. We don’t have an endless budget (man, wouldn’t that be nice!). but no matter how grand I envision a party, I need to use what I have and make it work. No one is going to say, “Oh, that doesn’t match perfectly!” or “Oh, did you see that she used the ___ instead of the ___?” Yeah, here’s the thing, if people are saying that, you don’t want them at your party!
We had a cookout in our backyard. I used our outdoor table and a neighbor’s folding table with a plastic table cloth on it for all of the food. We used our cooler from our wedding that my sister-in-law so nicely painted for us (with our wedding date and monogram) for drinks, and we had lawn chairs scattered throughout the yard.
It was not magazine worthy, but I felt proud. I put thought and effort behind it all and most importantly, everyone had a great time! So, don’t be like me and stress about making it the next Pottery Barn inspired grill-out. Don’t break the bank or stretch money that you don’t have. Find deals at Target, Wal-Mart, and the Dollar Store to tie things together, and overall have fun doing it and your guests are guaranteed a good time!
